L&BBFC Legends 4 Vs 6 L&BBFC Myths
Friday
16th December 2011
The last game of the 2011 WFA's County Men's Futsal League
pitted the Legends against the Myths in another club 'derby' encounter,
played at a dry and very cold KGV park,
Worcester.
The match produced what was perhaps the best encounter of the
season for both sides, and the score enabled the Myths to avoid a season
without any points, but alas it did nothing to change their final bottom
place finish.
Both teams went flat out from the start, attacking at every
opportunity. Myths 'keeper, James Marshall was in fine form thwarting Andy
Harris and Nick Medakovic with some great blocks. Meanwhile, at the other
end, a steady Andy Sankey in goal, was also making some fine saves to deny
a quick counter-attacking Myths side.
As it was, the Legends were the first to break the deadlock
with a well executed finish from the lively Nick Medakovic. The speedy
youngster was first to react to the ball being driven low into the box
from team mate Andy Harris, to stab home from close
in.
Back came the Myths and their leading marksman, Andy Green,
found it difficult to get past the agile veteran, Andy Sankey in goal.
However, his persistence paid off just before the break. A quick move saw
the ball fed out wide to the striker who then cut in to fire home the
leveler.
Dean Sibthorpe began the second period with an effort that
fizzed just wide of the upright, and an Andy Harris trade mark back heel
almost found team mate Nick Medakovic in acres of space.
It wasn't long after that the Legends regained the lead. A good
through ball from fullback Rob Shipton, found Nick Medakovic who in turn
set up Dean Sibthorpe to power home a great drive from close
in.
The Myths hit back and this time Jamie Wiggett finished off
another slick move when put through by team mate Andy Green. This gave the
Myths a lift as they stormed into a two goal lead soon after with further
strikes from Andy Green and Jamie Wiggett. The former being a fortuitous
miss-hit strike that wrong footed Andy Sankey and trickled in off the
upright.
Back came the Legends with a fresh legged Steve Dallow
replacing Nick Medakovic. A combination of passes involving full back Andy
Sankey, Bosko Medakovic, Steve Dallow, saw the latter square a pass to
Andy Harris. His turn and first time shot flew high into the net to raise
his team's hopes and reduce the arrears.
At 4-3 the game was finely balance as the action continued to
swing from end to end. Another Andy Green strike extended the Myths' lead,
but it was cancelled out almost immediately by a second goal from Dean
Sibthorpe.
Then, a fantastic solo effort from the 'ageless' Bosko
Medakovic almost drew the sides level. Intercepting a Myths' pass in his
half, the fullback pressed forward. He cleverly sold a dummy to his first
challenger before turning the opposite way to encounter a second. He then
again cheekily side stepped the challenge to confront another Myths'
defender.
Feinting a shot, the veteran easily went past the fullback to
face the on rushing 'keeper. Again feinting to shoot, he sent the 'keeper
the wrong way. However, as he rounded him, and with the open goal at his
mercy, the Legends' fullback could only find the side netting, much to the
disappointment of his amazed team mates.
As time was running out, the Legends pushed up searching for
the elusive equalizer, and with a swift counter-attack, the Myths sealed
the points with another Jamie Wiggett tap in from close
range.
After the match, a shattered Bosko Medakovic claimed, 'despite
the result, this was a fantastic match. The Myths have much improved since
we last met and just about deserved their win. As for the Legends, we
played well, scored some good goals, and had I hit the target, then it
would have been another 'greatest goal' ever. The referee told me that my
effort was a fantastic continental combination of Diego Maradona, Ricardo
Villa, and Fernando Torres. Maradona for the ability to turn and leave
players stranded (vs England 1986), Villa for the clever trickery (Vs Man
City 1983), and Torres for the miss (vs Everyone
2011).
L&BBFC Legends 3 Vs 14 Randoms FC
Friday
9th December 2011
The Legends came up against a very young and fit table topping
Randoms side in this WFA County Men's Futsal League encounter, played at a
dry but very cold KGV Park, Worcester.
Having been run ragged in their previous game of the evening
against title challenging Kidderminster Harriers FitC, the ageing Legends
were then again tested to their limits by a swift moving side that was
full of energy, despite also having played a game previously on the
night!
However, age proved wiser as the Legends were careful not to go
chasing the ball, and thus leave openings for the Randoms to exploit,
something they learned from their previous
encounter.
Rob Shipton again stood in as 'keeper and produced some great
blocks to deny the Randoms a hat full of goals in the opening exchanges,
and given the effort from team mates, Bosko Medakovic, Steve Dallow, Dean
Sibthorpe, and Andy Harris, the Randoms found their opponents a difficult
nut to crack early on.
With only one sub on the bench for this encounter, due to works
Christmas meal obligations, the Legends soon began to tire. The Randoms'
relentless attack soon found the chinks and duly went five goals up in an
eight minute spell.
However, the Legends battled gamely and but for the 'keeper,
they could have had a few goals themselves, but as it was, they had to
settle for a solitary strike from the lively Dean Sibthorpe just before
the break, as a consolation.
Sean Egan provided some light relief but the fast pace of the
game limited anything this could offer. The Legends were constantly
frustrated by the 'keeper as they looked to hit back but the game was put
well beyond doubt with a further nine goals from the Randoms in the second
period.
That said, further strikes from Andy Harris and Dean Sibthorpe
reduced the arrears, and a great run and shot from 'keeper, Rob Shipton,
could have made it four but for another good block by his opposite
number.
A combination of the wrong final pass and the opponents'
'keeper led to the Legends not chalking up more, as they certainly created
the opportunities. However, despite the result, the Legends did produce
some good football that even had the match officials
applauding!
After the game, full back, Sean Egan claimed, 'we didn't do too
bad against this bunch of youngsters. In fact we played some good football
ourselves, and with a bit more luck, could have had a few more goals that
would have made the final score line a bit more
respectable.'
L&BBFC Legends 4 Vs 8 Hornets FC
Friday
18th November 2011
Despite a four goal haul from the impressive Dave Baker, the
Legends were unable to land a blow on title hopefuls, the Hornets, in this
WFA County Men's Futsal League encounter, played at a cold KGV
Park.
The
Legends started off in determined fashion, intent on improving upon their
last meeting with the Worcester side, which ended in a 15-1 defeat. With a
sturdy performance from keeper, Andy Sankey, keeping a lively Hornet
attack at bay, aided by some solid defending from Bosko Medakovic and Rob
Shipton, the Badgers held out for the first
quarter.
Meanwhile up front, Dave Baker and Andy Harris were causing
much concern for the Hornet defence, with their clever linked up play and
individual runs at the visitors' goal. However, it was the Hornets that
drew first blood, and subsequently went into the break leading 4-1, with a
great Dave Baker drive late on reducing the arrears for the
hosts.
Buoyed by a good first half showing, the home side continued to
play an attacking game and just as in the first period, they had several
chances to increase their score, but found the Hornets' stopper in fine
form as he blocked several efforts from Andy Harris, Dave Baker, and Steve
Dallow.
It wasn't long though before the Badgers got their second.
Having been awarded a free kick for a foul on Steve Dallow, Dave Baker
fired in a low drive that went under the keeper and into the
net.
The visitors hit back with two quick strikes that seemed to
make the game safe, but another strong run from Dave Baker saw the striker
cleverly jinx is way past his marker, to fire home the third to complete
his hat-trick.
Missed chances continued to haunt the Badgers as Andy Harris
and Steve Dallow squandered good opportunities. The hard working Sean Egan
did well to block out a couple of efforts from the Hornets, but tiring
legs from this side of veterans, began to tell as the younger visitors
rattled home two further goals to complete their
tally.
With literally the last strike of the match, and completing his
personal tally, Dave Baker struck with what was the pick of the goals in
this game. With the Hornets pressing, the quick thinking forward spotted
their keeper off his line. Having intercepted a pass, he then neatly
lofted a shot over the keeper and into the empty net from the halfway
line, to the applause of everyone
watching.
Afterwards, fullback, Rob Shipton claimed, 'we played a much
better game tonight. We kept our shape and stuck to our game plan well. We
created numerous chances throughout, and found their keeper on form. Tired
legs took their toll, but on the whole, we gave a good account, given our
previous meeting. Well done lads.'
L&BBFC Legends 7 Vs 3 L&BBFC Myths
Friday 18th November 2011
This eagerly awaited County Men's Futsal League tie between
these two club sides produced a great encounter, played at a dry and windy
KGV Park in Worcester.
Making his first appearance of the season, Andy Sankey was in
sparkling form keeping the Legends' goal intact in the early stages as the
young Myths started strongly. Full backs Rob Shipton and Bosko Medakovic
worked well to close down the Myths, as Jamie Marshall, Andy Green, Sam
Abel, and Jamie Wiggett all tried their
luck.
However, despite their early pressure, it was the Legends who
opened the scoring. With Nick Medakovic and Oscar Hooper pressing the
Myths goal, a good interchange of passes saw the latter player slot home
from close in.
A second goal followed soon after, as again some slick passing
by the Legends' front pair ended with Oscar Hooper firing home his and
also his sides' second, to double the
advantage.
Legend's Sean Eagan, Andy Harris, and Steve Dallow replaced Rob
Shipton, Bosko Medakovic, and Oscar Hooper, as the half wore on. Not long
after, a mix up in the Legends defence gave the Myths a glimmer of hope as
Andy Green fired the loose ball home from close in to reduce the
arrears.
However, it wasn't long before a two goal cushion was restored
as the hard working Steve Dallow fired home almost immediately after the
restart. But still the Myths refused to lie down, as they continued to
press. James Marshall went close on several occasions, only to be thwarted
by Andy Sankey and Sean Egan.
The second period
began in much the same fashion. The Myths kept pressing as a patient
Legends side bided their time and defended well. A fourth Legends goal
came early on. With is back to goal, the quick thinking Andy Harris played
a clever trademark back heel that caught the Myths' rearguard unawares,
and rolled in off the post.
Another attempted break by the Legends was intercepted by Jamie
Wiggett, who in turn ran at the vulnerable Legends goal. His low driven
shot found its way into the bottom corner, passed an unsighted Andy
Sankey.
As happened in the first half, almost straight from the
restart, the Legends scored again. The energetic Nick Medakovic seized
onto a forward pass from his dad, Bosko, and cut inside the retreating
fullback to fire home a low drive from outside the box, to make the score
5-2.
Bosko Medakovic could have made it six. The lively Nick
Medakovic was fouled just inside the Myths' half. Up stepped Bosko to fire
in a low driven free kick that cannoned back off the upright, with the
loose ball then hacked to safety.
Another goal from Andy Green again gave the Myths some hope,
but this was short lived as the impressive Oscar Hooper rounded off the
scoring with two more goals late on, to complete his personal tally of
four.
At the end, Legends' Team Captain, Bosko Medakovic claimed,
'this was a great game. Both sides played well and demonstrated the
wonderful spirit that exists in this club, which received acknowledgement
from the two match officials. Good football, great goals, and glimpses of
brilliant skill were evident throughout. Well done everyone.'
