Welcome to our 'Fair Play' Page
Introduction Whilst we
recognise that scoring more goals than your opponents is the object of the
game, we also uphold the view that playing the game regardless of the result,
in a fair-minded and respectful manner is equally of great importance. This is
why Leigh & Bransford Badgers FC is committed to ensuring everyone
connected with the club undertakes their duties, be it on or off the field,
within the spirit of 'Fair Play'. This includes our members, staff, parents,
supporters, and sponsors. Like any
other successful Charter Standard Community Club, we too like to win; however,
not at any cost! What Is
Fair Play? Promoting good sportsmanship is synonymous with promoting positive
ethical values. Football may teach us how to win, but Fair Play teaches us how
to accept defeat with dignity and to respect the dignity of those teams that we
have defeated. It teaches us to respect the rules of the game, and also to
respect the referee, club staff, club coaches, team mates, and our spectators,
as well as all our counterparts connected with opposing teams. Football rejects negatives such as doping, corruption, racism, and
violence; promoting good and healthy values in their place. Fair Play not only
makes for a better footballing experience for everyone, but it also makes us
better people outside of the game! Fair Play comes from the very top of the soccer world in that FIFA is
highly committed to these values and at its various competitions, FIFA will
honour teams with the FIFA Fair Play Trophy, whose sportsmanship is seen
as being impeccable. For more information on FIFA Fair Play, please visit FIFA.com
The
L&BBFC Fair Play Remembrance Cup Following the tragic death of our friend and club colleague, Alessio
Adorisio, in the summer of 2009, there was a huge feeling within the club that
something should be done in honour of his memory given the five years or so he
had spent at L&BBFC, as an Assistant Coach to the successful L&BBFC Rangers
squad. Several suggestions were submitted and from this the club's
Executive Committee agreed on the idea of introducing the 'L&BBFC Fair
Play Remembrance Cup'. A collection was raised and this together with club
funds, was used to purchase a double handled, eleven inch high, silver plated
cup, mounted on a wooden plinth. Engraved with the words 'Remembering Our Friends' the cup would
be awarded at the end of each season to the L&BBFC squad that had attained
the highest number of points under the Mercian Festival Junior Football
Leagues' Fair Play Awards scheme, which is based on teams marking
opposing sides on matters such as behaviour and attitude among other qualities. What better way to honour the memory of our former friends and
colleagues than to help make our members and staff better people, by
encouraging Fair Play! The L&BBFC Fair Play Remembrance Cup Winners 2009/10 L&BBFC U11's Rangers 2010/11 L&BBFC U10's Athletic Remembering Our Friends Alessio Adorisio (2004 –2009) - Having
joined the club as a Volunteer Assistant in 2004 at the age of just seventeen,
Alessio gained his FA Level 1 Coaching certificate in 2006, to become the
club's youngest qualified coach at that time. He was part of the successful
coaching team that saw the L&BBFC Rangers squad win both league and cup
honours in the latter seasons he spent with them. It was during the summer of 2009 that the club was
devastated upon hearing news of Alessio, who lost his life in tragic
circumstances. The very popular and much loved 23 year old club colleague and
friend died of his injuries when his car was involved in a crash on the M5
motorway just outside Worcester. A talented musician, Alessio was travelling
home alone from a musical event when the incident happened.
